about

The concept idea for this album just fell out. I needed a name for a piece I was working on for fun and already had too many files on my drive named "a". Marco Polo popped into my head and it went from there.

I had a few pieces half completed and I realized that they all fitted the concept. After playing them to my parents and discussing my idea it became apparent that I didn't really know the story very well. Off to the library with me. The lady on the counter was probably wondering why I was borrowing children's picture books. Once I had the story mapped out the tracks came pretty fast.

There are several musical theme devices that repeat through this album;

a) Brass: travel and wonder
b) Rolling Rhythm: speed & movement
c) Floating Melody/Chords: transformation & beauty

“This (Over the Mountains) has such a wonderful richness to its programming - you are an exceptional craftsman and producer. This was a pleasure to hear!” Kibeja

about

Benedict Roff-Marsh Brisbane, Australia

After around 25 years and around three times that many albums this is the music that I make. It is my style.
