about

This album was released almost 10 years ago now (2017) and in starting a new record it hit me I wanted to make a sequel. That meant I had to dig this album out and listen to it as while I had it on cassette and MiniDisc it wasn't in my main music collection. In doing that I found a few tracks that had been edited or left off to make it fit on the cassette. Those are restored to the original running order.

The album felt like a turning point for me in making a coherent story for my concept album as well as making it more musical. I had even used a real brass sample on some of the tracks as a theme. Real samples tend to mean using proper notes, and I pretty well managed that, even if I didn't really know what I was doing.

10 years on I am still proud of what I made and apart from restoring running order, the only change is a new cover as I wasn't able to achieve my aims at the time and this is far closer (thanks NASA for the pic).

CONCEPT: the story is of people leaving Earth to start a life on a new world called Virgo 12. Virgo 12 had already appeared as a track "Works In Proto-Techno" and became the planet that appeared behind several of my themed records. This record covers the flight.

NEW RECORD: at the time of writing this there is a new SpaceShip record in the wings which is a part two.

Benedict Roff-Marsh Brisbane, Australia

Trained as a Mix Engineer in the late 80's in a tape-based studio making AM Radio jingles. It taught me to deliver and focus on the right result instead of messing about for days over whether 234ms or 243ms was more socially acceptable. I noticed that everyone was a bit afraid of the electronics. Composing helped me understand how to mix better. ... more
