about

Making any sort of art is always about documenting what is happening. Occasionally the images are as clear and simple as photographs but mostly, coming from the unconscious mind, art is the same as dreams and comes in fragments and things that point to other things. Always though, art is about documenting what is happening and trying to make sense of it all.

The sound of pure synthesis has always had a strong pull or resonance for me. The ability make all my own sounds helps me to feel that I am able to make something uniquely me. Of course my limits leave me feeling that I fail every time. Which of course leads me to try again. I guess it is the same for everyone who feels the need to create.

Here are fragments of me and my life documented in synthesized sound.

"Now this is the way electronic music should sound! A different sound, but it reminds me of the Jarre albums where all the tracks work together in an overall theme. This does that well. Also celebrates "sound" and texture - and drawing on your sound design skills, showcases that very nicely. Great ambient stuff - well done Benedict!" - Raymond Hayter (Pacific Deep)

"I listened to this while puttering around working today.
It actually is not very conducive to one being in motion, lol...You are like a planet - slow moving and most of us are gnats or cats or rats that dart through their lives and you plod slowly and methodically in the universe. One definitely has to sloow down to really appreciate the complexities." - Stratatonic

Benedict Roff-Marsh Brisbane, Australia

Trained as a Mix Engineer in the late 80's in a tape-based studio making AM Radio jingles. It taught me to deliver and focus on the right result instead of messing about for days over whether 234ms or 243ms was more socially acceptable. I noticed that everyone was a bit afraid of the electronics. Composing helped me understand how to mix better. ... more
